Before You Begin the Survey Process...

Before you being the survey process, decide:

  1. Who will be your district contact person?
  2. How will the district know whom to interview?
  3. Who will do the interviewing?
  4. Will the district record interview responses directly onto the website?
1. Who will be your district contact responsible for the WPHSOS process?
The person selected to be the district contact person should be the person who is responsible for receiving and keeping the district's user name and password, ensuring others using the outcomes website keep information confidential, and is the main contact person between the district and the website managers. Please review the Usage Agreement and indicate who the district contact person will be.

2. How will the district know whom to interview?
Once you have received your User Name and Password, you will be allowed access to the coordinator links. When you select "Enter Student Contact Information", you will see an alphabetized list of your district's former students. These are the students that your district reported as exiters on the Federal Data Report, collected from your district by the DPI on the third Friday in September. An exiter is a student who was present at the beginning of the reporting period and did not return to high school at the beginning of the next reporting period. This means your district reported this student as exiting your high school through:
  •  a regular diploma
  •  certificate of attendance (including an HSED)
  •  by reaching the maximum age of eligibility for services (21 years of age)
  •  or by dropping-out (age 14 and older)
If this is your required Indicator 14 year, an attempt will be made to contact all former students on this list. If your district has elected to use this survey process, you may contact some or all of your former students.

3. Who will do the interviewing?
If this is your required Indicator 14 year, St. Norbert College Survey Center will contact your district's former students and will enter the surveys directly on your district's secured portion of the website.

If your district has elected to use this survey process, you may have someone from your district call your former students or you may choose to contract with St. Norbert to call them.

If you plan to contact your former students, you will need to have each interviewer:
  •  Understand the confidentiality related to this survey and the information they will know
  •  Become very familiar with the survey questions and skip patterns
  •  Have the ability to communicate well with a variety of respondents; it is very important that each interviewer understands the questions so they can help the respondents understand them and respond appropriately
  •  Watch the Interviewer Training Video for insights and techniques on how best to interview

4. Will the district record interview responses directly onto the website or will we record the responses on paper and transfer them to the website?
If you are calling your former students, you can enter the interview responses directly onto the website (preferred method), or you can print a paper copy of the Scripted Interview. Record the respondent's answers on the paper form, and then you must enter all of the respondents' answers into the website at a later time.

Please note: The website interview questions have "skip" patterns built in (e.g. If the student answered "yes" to a question, you automatically go to the next appropriate question). If you are using a paper copy to record responses, you will need to follow the skip patterns very carefully to get accurate survey data.
